The Evils of Junk Mail *update*

By Russ • Apr 16th, 2008 • Category: MYG Blog

I’m sure most people have noticed the increase in junk mail in recent years. It has been commented on and reported widely. I have to admit, it’s something I haven’t really taken much notice of…until I started working on MYG anyway.

According to Wikipedia’s Wiktionary, Junk Mail is defined as:

  1. Any mail or letters that are not welcome or solicited and typically sent in bulk; especially mail of a commercial nature such as advertising circulars and form letters.

This week I decided to count all the junk mail that gets shoved through my letter box. At the end of the week I will total up how much I have recieved and try to work out how much that would work out to in a year. Once I have tested my maths skills, I will be looking into ways of reducing the Junk Mail i receive.

So far this week:

Monday - 2 items

Tuesday - 4 items

Wednesday - 3 items

Now this is certainly not as bad as the amount of junk mail the run up to christmas brings, but an average of three items a day is still pretty bad. Lets see what the rest of the week brings.

*update*

Thursday - 5 items

Friday - 7 items!!!

Saturday - 2 items

An average of 3.8 items a day! That, in my opinion, is simply too much…

Time to look into how I can reduce this deluge of unwanted, wasteful mail.
